Ready-to-Use DJ Party Services Contract Template

This DJ party services contract template helps clients and DJs record the essential terms of an entertainment booking. It covers the event details, performance schedule, fee and payment arrangements, equipment, music requests, cancellation, liability, and signatures, helping both parties clarify their expectations before the party.

A DJ party contract is a written agreement between a client and a disc jockey who will provide music and related entertainment services at an event. It helps both parties document the date, venue, performance time, payment terms, and practical requirements before the booking takes place. A clear agreement can reduce misunderstandings about equipment, song requests, overtime, and cancellation. This ready-to-use template can be adapted for private parties, birthdays, corporate functions, weddings, and similar events.

What a DJ Party Contract Should Cover

The agreement should identify the client and the DJ or DJ business, then describe the event precisely. Include the venue address, access arrangements, performance start and end times, and the type of music or atmosphere expected.

It should also state the fee, deposit, payment deadline, and any additional charges. Recording these points in writing gives both parties a practical reference if plans change.

Parties and event details

Use the legal names and contact details of the parties. If the client is booking on behalf of an organization or venue, state the organization’s name and the client’s authority to sign.

Services, Equipment, and Music Requests

Describe exactly what the DJ will supply, such as a sound system, microphones, lighting, an MC service, playlists, or a backup device. The client should confirm that the venue can safely accommodate the equipment and provide any agreed power supply, parking, or loading access.

Music and content boundaries

A request list can be attached to the contract, but it is sensible to clarify that the DJ retains professional discretion over sequencing and suitability. The agreement may also list songs, genres, or explicit content that should not be played.

  • Specify the DJ’s arrival and setup time.
  • List all sound, lighting, and microphone equipment included.
  • State whether the DJ will make announcements or act as MC.
  • Attach requested songs and any “do not play” list.
  • Confirm venue rules on volume, safety, and closing times.

Payment, Deposits, and Extra Time

The payment clause should state the total fee, the deposit amount, the due date for the balance, and accepted payment methods. If applicable, state whether travel, parking, accommodation, tax, or equipment rental costs are included or charged separately.

Include an overtime rate if the client may ask the DJ to continue beyond the agreed finish time. Extra time should normally require the DJ’s consent and be confirmed in writing, even if that confirmation is by message or email.

Agree on setup access and the final payment deadline before the event day; these two details prevent many avoidable last-minute disputes.

Cancellation, Delays, and Responsibility

A balanced cancellation clause should explain what happens if the client cancels, the DJ becomes unavailable, or the event cannot proceed because of circumstances outside either party’s reasonable control. It should address refunds, rescheduling, and the treatment of any deposit.

The parties should also allocate responsibility for damage caused to DJ equipment by guests, venue staff, or other third parties. Liability wording must be appropriate to the applicable law and should not attempt to exclude rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a DJ party contract need to be signed?

A signed written agreement is strongly recommended because it provides clearer evidence of what was agreed. Electronic signatures may be valid in many jurisdictions, subject to applicable legal requirements.

Can the client request specific songs?

Yes. The contract can include a playlist, preferred genres, and songs or content to avoid. It should also clarify whether requests are subject to the DJ’s professional judgment and venue restrictions.

What happens if the party runs late?

The agreement should state whether overtime is available, its hourly or partial-hour rate, and how it must be approved. The DJ may be unable to extend the performance because of venue rules or later commitments.
